COVID-19 is a Nutritional Crisis – Part 3 of 3

I have been talking the last two weeks about how COVID-19 is a Nutritional Crisis! We have heard about high dose Vit C being given to those with COVID-19 with some exciting results, along with Vitamin D3, Zinc and Probiotics which are essential for our immune systems.

I have talked about many other nutrients including Quercetin in my other posts and want to highlight some of these which can serve to protect you and help you should you get the virus. Here are 3 things I want to emphasize and encourage you to do to improve your immune system starting now. The time is now!

Quercetin

Quercetin can act as an antioxidant, neutralizing free radicals that cause cellular and DNA damage. Quercetin is known for its antibacterial and anti-inflammation properties, ability to prevent neurological diseases, and lower high blood pressure. Besides anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagens and anti-cancer-causing properties, Quercetin is considered to produce an antiviral effect and the ability to control major cell enzyme functions. Quercetin is considered to have the potential to act against the novel coronavirus to control major cell enzyme functions.

There are 2 other nutrients that are highly protective that I have talked about in my previous posts. As I listened to Dr Richard Horowitz, MD talk about these, over the weekend, I was reminded that I  want to stress that these will help to protect and support you as you return to the workforce, society, friends and family. They will also serve to help you through being exposed to COVID-19 or another virus or flu and other infections.

NAC: N-Acetyl Cysteine:

NAC: N-Acetyl Cysteine: I do not go a day without NAC. Why? As you have been hearing and learning about the cytokine storm, NAC works to reduce the inflammation of pro inflammatory cytokines. It has an antioxidant effect.  In addition, it supports the synthesis of Glutathione when the demand for Glutathione is increased during oxidative stress.

In  this article in the New York Post, Dr. Richard Horowitz, who has worked with over 14,000 cases of Lyme and Tick-Borne Diseases intervened with a woman suffering with COVID-19. Her son reported that she was having great difficulty breathing. In this case you will read that Dr Horowitz recommended 2000 mg and within an hour and the patient reported greater ease in breathing.

For support and protection Dr. Horowitz recommends 500 mg of Glutathione 2 x a day. Should you come down with COVID, he recommends 2000 mg all at once, 2-3x a day. As to NAC he recommends just what I take and that is 600 mg 2-3 times a day.

In addition , Dr Horowitz has had a case study reported that discusses the use of glutathione..

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Lastly, he discussed Alpha Lipoic Acid: aka ALA , which is another important  antioxidant that is absorbed from the GI tract. It is water and fat soluble. It is thought to protect nerve tissue from damage.

There are so many correlations between COVID-19, Lyme and TBD’s and while they can go dormant, they can be reactivated. Simply, the inflammatory reaction is what makes people sick and is referred to as the Cytokine storm (I will return to that in another blog post).

I hope this information will empower you to address your diet, lifestyle and nutrients that are available to protect and improve your immune system.

What we need is a multi prong approach to return to a semblance of life as we have known it. Creating fear is not the way to support our citizens.

We need more than what to do and what not to do. We need common sense and tools to support our bodies to give ourselves a sense of confidence as we return to the world.

Again, we do not hear about these in the general media as supplements do not make mega bucks like drugs and vaccines.  Infact, the media has suppressed information on what we can do to improve our health.

IF YOU ARE NOT PREVENTING DISEASE, YOU ARE PREVENTING HEALTH!

I invite you to follow my all my COVID-19 posts on this blog for further information.

Stay tuned as my next blog is going to be about the similarities between Lyme Disease and COVID-19.
